Celebrate Bastille Day at Randolph’s in Denver

Happy Bastille Day!

Yay! It’s Bastille Day! Time to celebrate the French and all the wonderful goods they’ve flourished on the world. Excellent French food and wine immediately come to mind.

I’m in Breckenridge now, on my way to Leadville, Colorado, the highest city in the United States perched at an elevation of more than 10,000 feet. Can’t help wondering if there’s a French restaurant in that old mining town. If not, I suppose I can content myself with a fine glass of French wine—that you can typically find easily enough.

Jean Claude Cavalera

If I were in Denver, I’d surely go to Randolph’s at the Denver Warwick Hotel. I love this restaurant, especially in summer where you can dine on one of the best patios in the mile-high city. Most of all though, Jean Claude Cavalera, a Frenchman, is the Chef de Cuisine here now and he has, of course, prepared a very special Bastille Day menu in honor of his native land. A three-course French dining experience accompanied by live music has been unfurled for this fun fête française. Beloved items such as petite salade du jardin au fromage de chèvre gratinée, coq au vin and mousse au chocolat are just a few of the French specialities that tempt me. It’s all reasonably priced at $32./per person with wine pairings available for an additional $15. I don’t usually provide prices on my blog, but how could I not in this case? It sounds like it will be a mighty festive time this evening chez Randolph’s.

If you miss it, you can enjoy a sampling of Chef Cavalera’s fine cuisine anytime at lunch or dinner at Randolph’s. His menus boast many fine French menu selections including my all-time favorite, duck confit. I suggest you try Randolph’s house made smoked salmon, a specialty for which the Chef is widely known.

Saumon Fumé

Alors, bon appétit everyone! I will be raising my glass to France and continued Franco-American cultural exchanges and friendship from one of the highest spots in our country this evening. And if I’m lucky, I might even be able to dig a un bon plat français.

Randolph’s, at the Denver Warwick Hotel, 1776 Grant Street, 303-318-7272.
