Happy Bastille Day everyone! It’s France’s National Holiday and a good day for us Francophiles to raise our glass to the French and all that we love about France and Paris.

There are two days–both in July–when you want to be on the Champs-Elysées in Paris:  today, July 14 and the last day of the Tour de France bike race which typically occurs the third Sunday in July. On both these occasions, you can witness magnificent displays of color and might on one of the world’s most beautiful avenues in one of the world’s most magnificent cities. The parade has already passed by today, but mark your calendar for Sunday, July 26 when the Tour zooms into Paree.

Honestly, I don’t know how she keeps up with her reporting and postings but she does with great enthusiasm and panache.

We connected recently and I was thrilled to learn that my book, The Riches of Paris:  A Shopping and Touring Guide to Paris, was one of her first acquisitions when she arrived in Paris. Now she’s living the life of a Parisian and I’m on the other side of the pond.

Mary Kay tipped her châpeau to me by highlighting an excerpt from my travel memoir, A Tour of the Heart:  A Seductive Cycling Trip Through France, recently at Out and About in Paris in a post entitled, The Thrill of Attending the Tour de France in Paris According to “A Tour of the Heart.” It features the spectacular finish of the Tour de France in Paris on the Champs-Elysées, bien sur. It’s not the most romantic passage of my story, however, I think it does accurately depict the arrival of this exciting three-week bike race on la plus belle avenue du monde. Check out the full posting–along with some dazzling photos of the Tour de France in Paris–carefully curated by Mary Kay.

And be sure to spend lots of time perusing Out and About in Paris, the website/blog, and its many social media outlets.

Happy France, bon Paris to all!

Merci to Mary Kay for the images in this post.
