KOTO Broadcasts the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival to All
What are you doing this weekend?
We’re having some beautiful late-summer weather here in Telluride, Colorado and I’m going to be enjoying some great music throughout most of Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I might even be sipping some frosty beers. I’m going to take part in one of the best musical happenings in the world, the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival. And you can, too.
I’ll be going into the actual festival on Sunday but as of right now, I’ve got it on the radio thanks to KOTO Telluride, one of America’s best-loved community radio stations. Go to KOTO.org and be a part of the fun. The KOTO broadcast team will be streaming the festival live starting at 11:45a.m. through 8:45p.m. everyday. (Mountain time, of course.)
In between live sets from some of the world’s most talented artists from Amy Helm and the Handsome Strangers to Robert Cray to George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic to Peter Frampton, the team will be conducting interviews and providing the inside track of what’s doing at the festival. The KOTO crew of Dina Coates Koebler, Suzanne Cheavens and Beth Lamberson Warren with the help of Corey Beaton always provides lively banter with or without artists in between sets.
I encourage you to throw down your tarp and/or pull out your barbecue and enjoy this fabulous festival with the rest of us. And if you like what you hear, please make a donation to KOTO–through their website–since it’s one of the few entirely community-supported radio stations in the country. “In honor of the 21st annual Blues & Brews Festival, KOTO has the goal of having 210 people show their support over the weekend through a donation,” says Dina.
So why aren’t I going all three days? Since I’ve enjoyed so much wonderful travel and festivals this summer, it’s hard for me to tear myself away from my desk for another long weekend. Perhaps that’s why I enjoy the KOTO broadcasts so much; with them, I still feel like I’m a part of the fun.
I’ve got the vibe already, since I’m riding the wave of the good time I had last night at the free Sunset Blues Concert put on by Ryan McGarvey with opening act Dragondeer. Ryan McGarvey rocked it hard and had us all dancing until the sun set far in the distance. That’s the kind of energy you feel at this festival and I’m so glad that through the generosity of Telluride Blues & Brews, many musicians, KOTO and countless folks behind the scenes, this transcending experience may be shared with you.
Go ahead, tune in right now.
